Michael Chiarello displays food items that make great gifts for the holidays

AIR TIMES:

Giftable Food and Wine
Making a batch of Italian biscotti for dessert is one way to prepare for the holiday season, but what about getting the perfect present for wine lovers? Michael offers his suggestions on some great gift ideas by showing off some items that any wine connoisseur would love and sharing a recipe that makes a great gift.

Wine Accessories

Every wine connoisseur enjoys receiving unique wine accessories, and Michael shares a few items that make great gifts:

  • For someone who likes to entertain, look for a small hors d'oeuvre plate that has a built-in wine glass holder.
  • Wine decanters make great gifts. Some even have a small pouch for ice to keep Chianti chilled.
  • A "wine thief" is a device vintners use to retrieve wine from the barrel. It allows the winemaker to judge color and see sediment in one glance.
  • A champagne riddling rack is great for storing bottles and looks great hanging on the wall.
  • A comporte is a grape-picking bin that was used in France's Bordeaux region in the early 1900's. Today, a comporte can hold your sunflowers or function as your umbrella stand.
