Fisherman Island, a private island off the coast of Maine, is the perfect summer getaway for five-star island relaxation. If the island is too expensive for your tastes, bring your boat and stay on the water in nearby Boothbay Harbor, which has plenty of fresh seafood restaurants. If you don’t like to eat lobster — the area's main food focus — enjoy viewing them in the local aquarium.

How to Get There

  • 59 miles northeast of Portland, Maine
  • Take I-95 to US-1 North
  • The island is three and a half miles from Boothbay Harbor, the largest boating harbor north of Boston.

Where to Stay

Fisherman Island

Greystones Hall
Because this perfect getaway is a private island, there's only one place for sleeping and supping: a 5,000-square-foot stone home complete with seven bedrooms, spa amenities, a dining room table that seats 12 people, a billiard table and a chef to accommodate meals.

  • Greystones Hall was originally built in 1925 as a retreat for a Unitarian minister. All the stone came from the island.
  • One of the bedrooms is a bunk room with five beds, great for children.
  • There's a staff available for cleaning and cooking, and boat excursions are inclusive in the island rental.
