Bandon Dunes, Pacific Dunes, Ore. Hole 13 Specials : Episode FLAMD-SP01
Location
Bandon, Oregon
Hole # 13
Course Description
With a reputation for designing courses that look natural and stay faithful to the land, architect Tom Doak has created Pacific Dunes, a course where nature's elements are an integral part of the challenge and character of this 6,557-yard, par-71 course.
Details
This 444-yard, par-4, even from the shortest tee at 336 yards, plays long to its large elevated green.
Why is it rated so highly?
Because of its bluff-top location overlooking the ocean, and tree-less open design that quickly turns the course to the sea, players at Pacific Dunes often find themselves vying with 40-mile-an-hour winds. Unpredictable prevailing winds factor greatly into the dramatic play of number 13, requiring a strong second shot onto a green with a severe false front.
How do you play it?
To get the ball out as far as possible, swing easy while favoring the right side, and shoot into the wind to the elevated green.
Course Trivia
In 2002 Pacific Dunes offered 300 caddie positions to locals in the area to help combat unemployment.
