Hole # 13

Course Description
Opened in 1948, Dunes Club is a perfect example of architect Robert Trent Jones' post World War II course architecture that demands length off the tee and bold shot-making. With the Atlantic Ocean, river inlets and marshes as a backdrop, Dunes offers 7,165 yards and a par-72 of picturesque and challenging play.

Details
Nicknamed "Waterloo," the par-5, 590-yard 13th hole features a boomerang-shaped fairway that bends back on itself more than 90 degrees, to a green on the far side of the course's most famous water hazard, Singleton Lake.

Why is it rated so highly?
Like many of Jones' difficult designs, Dunes features long tee boxes and large, undulating greens along with acres of water and sand. Described as the ultimate heroic hole, it is very difficult to reach the hole, which is surrounded by a bunker, in two.

How do you play it?
After a well-placed tee shot through a chute of pines and willows, the second shot must carry a portion of Singleton to a tiny sliver of fairway and then onto the bunker-surrounded green.

Established in 1948, The Dunes Golf and Beach Club has played host to six senior tour championships, a Women's U.S. Open and the finals of PGA Tour Qualifying School.
