Mauna Kea Golf Course, Hawaii Hole 3 Specials : Episode FLAMD-SP01
Location
Hawaii
Hole #3
Course Description
In 1965 developer and conservationist Laurence Rockefeller engaged architect Robert Trent Jones to design this 7,114-yard, par-72 course between two beautiful white sandy beaches.
Details
This 210-yard, par-3 is one of the most breathtaking of Mauna Kea's views. With nothing but surging inlet water racing to meet the rocky shoreline between the tee and green, it makes for a visually intimidating hole.
Why is it rated so highly?
Rockefeller's determination to build the best course regardless of cost, challenges or location afforded Jones carte blanche in creating a layout renowned for its panoramic views and challenging play.
How to play it?
Hit your tee shot well enough to carry the 140 to 210 yards of water, to the kidney-shaped, bunker-protected green. Aim for the small bailout area to the right and finish with a soft chip to the green.
Trivia
Mauna Kea Resort houses more than a thousand pieces of Rockefeller's Asian and Pacific art collection. Golfers are advised to look for the Buddhas, as rubbing the Buddha's belly before a round allegedly brings good luck!

$125 for resort guests to $195 for non-guests
