Bay Hill Club, Fla. Hole 18 Specials : Episode FLAMD-SP01
Location
Orlando, Florida
Hole #18
Course Description
With his design partner Ed Seay, Arnold Palmer put some teeth into Bay Hill's 7,207- yard, par-72 course.
Details
Palmer's redesign transformed Bay Hill's Number 18 from a gentle par-5 with a lake to one of the hardest and most strategic holes on the tour, offering a long 441-yard, par-4.
Why is it rated so highly?
In addition to the championship course, Bay Hill offers three 9-hole courses and is filled with many of Palmer's preferred features, such as wide-open fairways and bunker-protected greens.
How do you play it?
Play is determined by the hole location on the crescent-shaped green, with the preferred play to the left safely away from the water, leaving a long second shot. However, if the hole is located to the right, the tee shot must carry the water but be short enough to avoid the back bunkers.
Course Trivia
In 1990, 22-year-old tour rookie Robert Gamez stunned Greg Norman by a stroke at the Bay Hill Invitational when he holed a seven-iron from 176 yards (on this hole) for an eagle two.
