Do you wonder where the best high schools in America are? You might be surprised to find that SAT scores and honors programs aren't the only way to judge the quality of your child's education.

Newsweek has published a list that ranks high schools by just one indicator — the strength of their Advanced Placement and international baccalaureate programs. The list does not reflect college-bound or dropout rates, or teacher qualifications.

Here are Newsweek's top five:

1. International Academy — Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (30 minutes from Detroit)
   
2. Stanton College Prep — Jacksonville, Florida (home to the PGA and the Association of Tennis Professionals)
   
3. Paxon — Jacksonville, Florida
   
4. Alabama School of Fine Arts — Birmingham, Alabama (home of a leading workforce of medical and engineering professionals)
   
5. Jericho High School — Jericho, New York (28 miles from New York City)
