Celebrate ThanksgivingOne of the greatest joys of Thanksgiving is spending time with friends and family. Besides gathering around the table and sharing a traditional meal together, there are other activities you can do to make the day both special and memorable.
In Fall 2003, Edward Bleier published The Thanksgiving Ceremony through Crown/Random House. The 114-page hardcover book, which grew out of his first-generation American appreciation, celebrates America's most universal holiday with a 25 minute non-denominational "ceremony" to be read by participants around the Thanksgiving table of family and friends.
- Plan Games For Group. One of the joys of Thanksgiving is that there's so much to do as a group. There's a major dinner to be enjoyed and there are big football games to watch, but if the weather is clear there's no better football game than among members of the family.
- Don't Over Schedule The Day. Plan as much community activity as possible, but don't over do it. Allow for people to enjoy the day at their own pace.
- Share Poems and Stories. Create your own observance for Thanksgiving by bringing your favorite stories or poems to share with everyone as they gather around the table.
- Remember Your Favorite Charity. What's wonderful about Thanksgiving is that it's about giving. Making a donation to your favorite charity as a group is a great way to show your thanks and spread some joy.
