Kayak Guides and Traveling Photographer (111)Once upon a time, long hours kept Michael McCoy cooped in office and away from his real interests: diving, hiking, outdoor photography, and a newly-discovered passion his fiancée loved too, kayaking. Michael and Melissa had come across the sport while visiting Maui and were instantly enamored.
The Hawaii-based couple now spends their days leading kayak expeditions and tending to the culinary herb garden that has become the source of their second career. The McCoys' special mixture of herbs and flowers, grown on their two-acre property, is popular with resorts and fine restaurants in the area. They feel they couldn't have dreamed up a more perfect life.
Next, meet Christine Hauber, a well-known Denver-area photographer. Hauber felt creatively stifled after her seven-year-old business had grown to its limits. That is, until she came up with the idea for "The American Project," a book documenting ordinary people who are proud of what they do for a living. Hauber subsequently shuttered her business, bought a custom RV outfitted with a darkroom, and set out on a two-year journey. Now, all of her days are spent traveling and meeting new people.
