Nick Kutscera's Eastern Star, East Northpoint —Long Island, NY

Boat Innkeeper, Shoe Designer (207)
Boat Innkeeper

For 14 years, Nick Kutscera had a successful career in computer programming, but he grew tired of sitting in front of a computer day after day. So, he quit his job and spent three years building his dream. With a background in carpentry, Kutscera was able to construct a cruiser named The Eastern Star. It features six staterooms, a main bar, a library, a formal dining room, plus much more. The Eastern Star offers cruises of varying lengths along the East Coast to corporate, family, and group charters.

Shoe Designer

Taryn Rose was an orthopedic surgical resident for 5 years, typically working more than 100 hours a week. The attire worn in the medical profession is typically not too stylish, and that was one thing she really disliked about her work. At the end of her residency, Rose knew she had to make a big decision. She had put in nine long and challenging years to become an orthopedic surgeon. She decided to pursue her dream of bringing medical science to the fashion world by making fashionable, yet functional, footwear. Today, Rose’s shoes sell at 220 boutiques around the country.

Boat Innkeeper Facts:

  • The Kutsceras used savings, borrowed money and an SBA loan to buy the boat.
