Celebrate Valentine's Day With FriendsCelebrate Valentine's Day With Friends Traditionally, Valentine's Day has always been a holiday built for two, as in a table for two, two tickets to the theater and a hotel suite for two. But there's more to the celebration of love and affection than the standard paired sweethearts, and there's no reason why the very concept of Valentine's Day can't expand to accommodate everyone. When love is in the air you can share its spirit with friends, relatives, and neighbors, and find fun new ways to enjoy the holiday en masse.
A proud native of Manhattan, Tessa Benson has attended such prestigious institutions as The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, The American University of Paris, and Columbia University. In 2000 she started writing for DailyCandy.com, quickly working her way up to her present position as Senior Staff Writer. A lover of fashion and trend spotting, Benson has written for an eclectic collection of magazines including Manhattan File, The New York Times Style Section, Fashion Wire Daily, and Los Angeles Magazine. Here she lists some great ideas for spending Valentine's Day with a group of your friends:
- Group outings.
Find a fun way to go out and spend the day or evening with a whole group of friends. Get a group manicure and pedicure, go see a play, or book a big table at your favorite sushi place and have a huge sake and sushi party.
- Send your love.
Another fun idea is to send valentines to all your single friends, telling them how much you love and appreciate them and how wonderful it is that you all know each other.
- A cooking class.
Phone up a local restaurant or cooking school and book a chef to come to your house to teach you and your friends how to make a fine meal or dessert.
- A wine tasting.
Call all of your friends and have them drop by with their favorite bottles of wine and have a wine tasting. You might also schedule a wine appreciation class with an expert who can come over and teach you all a thing or two about wine while your all having a good time eating and drinking.
- Karaoke.
Rent a karaoke machine and have all your friends over for a crazy, silly party of singing all your favorite songs. If you enjoy performing in public, head out to a restaurant or bar that offers karaoke and try to become pop stars for one night.
- Have fun.
Do whatever makes you and your friends happy. Email your entire list with a Valentine's Day card, just to spread a smile around, and then plan a night of nutty fun.
