Stylish accessories can make or break a man's outfit.

When shopping for clothes, many men give no consideration to accessories, and this can be a mistake. There are many little items that can make or break an outfit, and a man's overall style and appearance is often judged by a lot more than just his basic items of clothing.

Martin Kedzior works as a freelance image consultant in Los Angeles, styling individuals and corporations with wardrobes and appearance projects. Here he offers tips for buying and wearing truly stylish men's accessories:

• Cufflinks.
  One accessory that men avoid, but shouldn't, is the cufflink. Kedzior sees cufflinks as a great way to personalize an outfit, and suggests finding some real conversation pieces at an antique shop.

• Pocket squares.
  Men should always know how to use a pocket square or scarf in a suit jacket. It creates a polished, sophisticated look in a way that is not obvious or ostentatious.

• Wrist watches.
  When you're wearing a dinner jacket, says Kedzior, it is not proper to wear a wristwatch. When out at the opera or at a nice formal dinner, it is considered rude to look at a watch to get the time.

• Pocket watches.
  If you must keep track of the time at a formal event, try a stylish pocket watch that you can slip away into a pocket. Of course, not all men have pocket watches, so Kedzior suggest taking no watch at all and simply relying on someone else to know the time.
