Take a day trip with your best friend. A little planning from your pet's perspective will help every passenger enjoy the ride.
Prepare for the Trip
When you're ready to go, protect your vehicle interior with a seat cover or blanket. Bring along water, your pet's food, and even some toys.
Tire Her Out
Try exercising your pet before she gets in the car, to tire her out.
Restrain Pet in Rear Seat
For safety, keep your pet in the back seat. This reduces the risk of being injured by a deploying airbag or distracting the driver. Buckle dogs up with a restraining harness, available at most pet supply stores, or keep her in a pet crate.
Fresh Air
Discourage your pet from hanging her head out the window. This can cause inflammation of the eyes, ears or throat. But keep the air fresh so she doesn't get carsick.
Never Leave in Car Unattended
Always make sure she's wearing an ID tag with your phone number on it, and never leave your pet in the car unattended.
