How to Choose Flattering Lingerie
By Anna Wallner and Kristina Matistic
Feb. 13, 2007 Nothing can get set the romantic mood as quickly and effectively as some sexy lingerie. Whether you're looking to buy your paramour something slinky, or you're in the market for some boudoir attire for yourself, here's what to look for when shopping:
- Many stores have online registries where you can list the items you like, along with your measurements. This can be helpful in pointing men in the right direction.
- When shopping for lace lingerie, make sure you do the touch test. It should feel smooth yet scratchy and it should snap back into place once stretched.
- Ensure that there are no loose threads hanging off the garment. This is a sign of lesser quality.
- Quality silk should feel heavy and drape well. One fabric we don't like is synthetic made to look like silk. After a few washings, it tends to look worn and cheap.
- French lingerie is considered among the best in the world. (Guys, if you want to impress your lady friend, think en Francais.)
- Yes, neutrals are more practical, but all the guys we polled prefer lingerie in color with black and red being the most popular.
- Padded bras are great underneath clothing, but we recommend staying away from false advertising in the bedroom. Choose something nice and lacy for those steamy romantic evenings in front of the fireplace.
- If you're a plus-size woman, opt for two pieces. They're more flattering than one, which has the potential of looking tent-like.
