Hummer, Land Yachting, Honda Hoot (202)On this episode of
Ride of Your Life we travel off road in style. We visit with The Hummer Club, Inc., located near Malibu, Calif. There is no commercial off-road vehicle quite like the Hummer. Originally designed for the military, it was refined and produced for the public. It is truly an inspiring automobile.
And now, the all new H2 is here. General Motors has purchased the Hummer name and is going to produce a slightly scaled-down version. While it's still a tough vehicle, the H2 is meant more for the street and is more comfortable than the original. However, it can still handle tough terrain. GM showed off the new and improved H2 for us up in Santa Barbara, CA.
Next we go yachting on land. Land Yachting involves a sailboat on wheels that can cruise quickly over cement, sand and dry lake beds. The Land Yachting club of America stages races for its members and the current speed record is 116 mph. These boats can fly. We spent a few days with these wind wizards and enjoyed their relaxing and exciting hobby out in the fresh air.
Lastly, we travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for the Honda Hoot. It may sound a little strange at first but this is one impressive gathering of motorcycle enthusiasts. The entire city of Knoxville holds a party and families come from all over to spend a weekend with other Honda owners and have a lot of fun. There's even a school teaching the youngsters how to ride. Let's head for the south.
