Here's what to look for in a leather couch, inside and out.

Construction:

• A hardwood frame is better for longevity.
  
• A zig-zagged spring in the back construction.
  
• A coil spring is perfect for longevity and comfort.
  
• Cushions that are made with high-density foam.

Leather:

• With top grain leather imperfections can be buffed out.
  
• With full grain leather the beauty is natural and long lasting.

Finishes:

• Aniline-dyed leather has a lush finish and will patina with time.

• Full finish leather will not patina and has a more finished or formal appearance.

• Don't forget to do take a look on-line to see what is available.

• Be sure to ask the salesperson for sample swatches and take them home to see what works in your decor.

• Don't forget to check the dimensions of the sofa before you buy. It'd be terrible to invest the money and then the couch be too big or too small for your space.
