Some solutions:

• Create a dual-purpose room that looks like a nursery and has a lot of storage space.
  
• If you don't know the sex of the baby, use "gender neutral" paint in pure hues, like blue green.
  
• To cut costs, restore sturdy furniture. A chair, for example, can be re-decorated with an animal-theme baby bumper.
  
• If you're short on closet space, make one piece of furniture a wardrobe that will fit clothes.
  
• When preparing a baby's room, search the floor for sharp corners, and exposed electrical sockets.
