Simple Tips: the Perfect Cup of Tea Simplify Your Life : Episode FLSYL-305
For the British, tea is a part of daily life. In fact, they drink 165 million cups of tea every year. And they're not the only ones. Tea is the second most popular drink in the world, behind water. There are 3,000 varieties to choose from, and three major types green, oolong and black.
The British prefer black teas, and they have very specific ideas on what makes the perfect cup. To start, use freshly drawn water and bring to a boil. Previously boiled water can taste flat and dull. Warm the teapot with hot water. For each cup of tea required, use one teaspoonful of loose tea or one teabag. Add an additional teaspoon or teabag for the pot. Let it brew for three to 5 minutes.
Though many prefer a slice of lemon with their tea, the British generally add milk. And never use milk and lemon together. The acid in lemon curdles milk. It's important to add milk in the cup first. Pouring milk after the tea will cool it. Then pour the tea, add sugar if you like, and enjoy.
