Mud stains on a shirt. Rub half of a raw potato on the stain and soak the shirt in cool water for a short while. Launder as usual.
Collar stain. Rub the heel of a slice of bread into it, wash and the collar will look like new again.
Ink stain on a pocket. Douse it with hairspray and rub hard with a bar of soap. Rinse in cold water and launder as usual.
Lipstick stains. Apply toothpaste, rub well and wash.
Dingy, overwashed whites. Mix two teaspoons cream of tartar in one gallon hot water and soak overnight. Wash as usual and your clothes will be brighter.
