When your so-called "home office" is more of a dumping ground for papers, boxes and everything else, try these tips to restore it to the original intent:

  • Remove everything from the office. It's important to start with a clean slate.
  • Start sorting items. Get rid of boxes, junk, old papers — anything that should have been thrown out in the first place and won't be going back in the room.
  • Add shelving and a desk. Adjustable straight bars allow for the shelves to be rearranged as office needs change.
  • Assemble a mess drawer system.
  • Add lighting on the ceiling to make it easier to perform paperwork and work on the computer.
  • Put up a notice board and add curtains
