Show guest Lestina Trainor and Fashion Expert Susan Getz organizing the clothes.

Fashion expert Susan Getz has these tips for corralling clothes that are everywhere but the closet:

  • Perform a wardrobe inventory to see what you have, what condition it's in and what items you need to purchase.
  • Sort clothes into piles and then separate into seasons. As you go, make a list of what you have by category. This list will be handy later when you shop — you can fill in holes on the wardrobe list when you see what you need on sale and you're less likely to accidentally buy duplicates.
  • Try on items you don't wear often to see if they fit.
  • Keep everyday clothes together in a nearby closet and put "once in a while" clothes together in a spare closet. That way you won't waste time searching through evening gowns for your favorite pair of jeans.
  • Give or throw away clothes you haven't worn in the season rather than waste space storing them.
  • Repair anything that needs repairing
  • Clean everything. Don't ever put away sweaters, etc., without washing them first. Moths are attracted to the dirt and perspiration on clothes.
  • Pack the heaviest items at the bottom of plastic boxes, so they don't crush lighter items.
  • Plastic boxes are better than cardboard because they don't crush and won't get wet.
  • Hang like items together, separated by occasion — casual with casual clothes, business with business.
