If the right tool isn't available, there are some simple ways to improvise and still get the job done:
A wire stripper is great for small electrical jobs, but ordinary nail clippers will work. Just make sure not to press too hard or you risk cutting through the wire.
A mallet is the perfect carpenter's tool for fitting two wood pieces together without marring the surface. But if you don't have one handy, cut a hole in a tennis ball and slip it over an ordinary hammer. Now it's safe to use.
If you have a screw but not a screwdriver, try a large nail. Grip it with pliers and use the nail to tighten or loosen the screw.
When all you need is a tool belt, adapt a small tote bag. Cut it to about eight inches in length and cut two vertical slits on one side. Slip an old belt through the slits and fill with tools.
