Dale DeGroff, master mixologist and author of The Craft of the Cocktail, explains vodka infusion:

  • Many leading vodka producers make infused vodkas, especially fruit-flavored ones. Fortunately for the vodka enthusiast, these popular infusions are easy to recreate at home.
  • All you need to get started is a liter of vodka and a 1/2-gallon glass jar.
  • Various ingredients require different amounts of time to yield optimal results.
  • Subtle-tasting fruits require longer than potent spices to flavor a vodka.
  • Dried or frozen fruits will work as well as fresh fruit for infusions.
  • Spices produce enough flavor without being crushed or chopped.
  • A 1/2-cup of spices or a whole cup of fruit per liter of vodka will yield a delicious infusion.
