  • Elisa All, Editor-in-chief of Pregnancy Magazine, says massage can be a downright necessity for expecting moms.
  • If you're expecting, consult with your doctor before you even consider getting a massage.
  • The safest and most comfortable way for a pregnant woman to receive a massage is to lie on your side. Or, you can be seated and leaning forward on a table or a bed with several pillows for support.
  • In order to maximize blood flow and circulatory effect, massage towards the heart.
  • There are several points on the hands and the feet and the calves that might stimulate premature labor. So massage with long fluid movements instead of pressing around these areas.
  • To stay comfortable at work when you sit a lot, keep a box or stool under your desk so you can prop your feet up.
  • Your metabolism is running in high gear and can really affect your body temperature. Wear layers that you can put on or take off throughout the workday.
  • Use acupressure bands around your wrist. They hit a point that helps relieve nausea.
  • To sleep better, use a full body pillow that will accommodate your head, arms, abdomen and knees.
  • A bath feels wonderful during pregnancy. The only time you shouldn't take one is when your water has broken, but be sure the water is cooler than 102F.
