Step 1: Making the Connection
Survival Guide : Episode FLSUR-113

Dating, like all things, takes hard work. So get used to casting a wide net and putting in the hours. Perhaps the biggest question is not who to meet, but where to meet. One of the fastest growing ways is over the Internet. But making a successful connection can ultimately depend on how you conduct yourself online. Here are ways to make your time online count:

  • When you fill out your online profile, remember less is more. Spare the long walks on the beach and picnics in the park. After all, who doesn't like those? You'll get more nibbles with specifics than a clichés.
  • Putting your photo on your dating profile has become important. If you don't have a photo online, people may assume that you have something to hide about your looks.
  • Once you've created a profile, be sure to manage your time. Experts say you don't have to answer every e-mail you get. If you're not interested in someone, just move on, they'll get the point.
  • Be sure to e-mail back and forth two or three times before moving on to a phone call.
  • For the first date, you should plan on meeting at a coffee bar or for a drink. That way, if it's not a good date you only have to spend a half hour or 45 minutes with the person.
