Spend a Romantic Weekend in the California Wine Country
Renowned for its beautiful scenery and expansive of coastline, the California wine country in Napa Valley is also a fabulous getaway for wine connoisseurs interested in wine education, a California wine tour or just a romantic weekend vacation.
Napa Valley
Just about an hour north of San Francisco, Napa Valley is considered among the best of California wine country. The extraordinary vineyards, state-of-the-art technology and exceptional winemaking skills have propelled Napa wines to the head of the world wine class. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay lovers should head to Los Carneros, one of the least known and visited areas of the valley. Although Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the backbone wines of the cooler Carneros, many producers are now successfully growing Merlot and Syrahtypically grown in warmer climates. The wineries are small and usually only open for wine education and tastings by appointment only.
Stags Leap is a Cabernet Sauvignon lover's paradise. The small region does make some white wines, but Cabernet is its signature.
In the heart of Napa Valley is St. Helena, which was founded in the mid 1800s. St. Helena is home to several historic wineries, as well as the Niebaum-Coppola Estate Winery owned by Francis Ford Coppola, Beringer, Charles Krug, Louis M. Martini and Sutter Home. Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel thrive in St. Helena's viticulture.
Whether you choose to spend a romantic weekend or an adventurous week touring the California Wine Country, you simply can't miss the regions of the Napa Valley.
