Spend Your Beach Vacation at a Southern Vacation Hot Spot

Everyone knows Florida has renowned beaches and summer activities. But for those looking for something a little different this summer, head north for a Georgia island vacation. The coastal beach resortsof Tybee Island, as well as St. Mary's and The Cumberland Island National Seashore, and Little St. Simons are jewels among Georgia's coastal

vacation hot spots. Unspoiled Beach Vacation
Perhaps the best aspect of a Georgia island vacation is the fact that one of the most beautiful beaches is the most unspoiled. The Cumberland Island National Seashore is part of the National Park Service and includes 36,415 acres of beaches, marsh, mud flats and tidal creeks. It's well known for its wild horses, sea turtles, shore birds, dune fields, maritime forests, salt marshes and historic structures. There are no overnight accommodations on Cumberland, but it's just a short ferry ride from nearby St. Mary's, known as the Gateway to Cumberland Island.

Georgia Island Vacation
Another Georgia popular beach vacation destination is Tybee Island. Located just east of Savannah, it's a small barrier island with a 3-mile long beach that's backed by sea oat-covered sand dunes. Tybee is a beach resort complete with modern hotels, motels, luxurious condominiums, and quaint inns and cottages, plus a wide range of restaurants. It's ideal for family fun, sunbathing, people watching and riding the waves of the Atlantic Ocean—in other words the ideal Georgia island vacation.

Little St. Simons Island
For a truly luxurious and private Georgia island vacation, consider Little St. Simons Island. It's renowned for its untouched natural beauty, gracious hospitality and secluded appeal. It's accessible only by boat, and its 10,000 acres include seven miles of beaches. The island is totally private and only 30 overnight guests are allowed at any time. Nature takes center stage at Little St. Simons Island.
