Take a Romantic Spa Getaway to France

Europe is home to some of the world's top spas. And if you want to take a romantic spa getaway with that someone special in your life, head straight to France. Spa options abound in the culinary capital of the world, and after a few relaxing days in one of France's luxury spa resorts, the only thing you'll have a hard time doing is returning home.

Gold Spa Resort
The Caudalie Vinotherapie Spa is located just next to the Sources de Caudalie hotel-restaurant in the middle of the Château Smith Haut Lafitte vineyards near Bordeaux. The top spa offers an exclusive menu of treatments in a setting overlooking the vineyards of Château Smith Haut Lafitte. Treatments include baths, massages, water jet showers and special wraps. Many of the spas treatments combine naturally warm spring water rich in minerals with vine and grape extracts, which are said to help fight the signs of aging.

Oriental Spa in France
For a slightly more exotic, but still romantic, spa getaway, escape to the Shiseido Spa at Le Mas Candille in Mougins. A variety of treatments are available at the spa, which is the first Shiseido spa in continental Europe. Located in its own landscaped gardens, the Japanese-style spa has a soothing Oriental spa environment and offers a wonderful selection of face and body treatments based on an Oriental philosophy. The treatments use a combination of shiatsu pressure point work, oshiboris (special Japanese hot towels) and aromachological fragrances to stimulate pressure points.

France's Best Spa Destination
A romantic spa getaway to France just wouldn't be complete without a stop in Vichy. About 250 miles south of Paris on the Allier River, Vichy sits at the gateway to the Auvergne, a region of France rich with mineral springs and extinct volcanoes. Vichy has six natural springs that have been attracting people for thousands of years. The Halle des Sources houses four of Vichy's six springs where visitors can either observe the water bubbling up or actually sample it from drinking fountains. Three spas operate in Vichy: The Thermes les Domes, Thermes Callou and The Celestins. At each spa, guests are evaluated by a thermalist and then attend the recommended sessions, which can include everything from the "Bubbly Bath" (a tub with more than 150 tiny jets), a mud wrap, an underwater massage and the "Vichy Shower," a 15-minute full body rub by two massage therapists under a four-headed shower of warm mineral water.
