A California Travel Guide to the Coastal State

California travel guides are about as diverse as the state is large. From the Northern California wine country, to the beaches of Southern California, travelers can enjoy a diverse holiday in the country's third largest state.

California Wine County
Renowned for its beautiful scenery and expansive of coastline, the California wine country in Napa Valley and Sonoma County make fabulous getaways for wine connoisseurs interested in wine education or romantic weekend vacations. Napa Valley is considered among the best of California wine country. The extraordinary vineyards, state-of-the-art technology and exceptional winemaking skills have propelled Napa wines to the head of the world wine class.
But don't discount Sonoma County grapes. Wine making in the region produces some of the California's best Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel and Syrah wine. Appreciation for Sonoma Valley's wineries makes it an exceptional wine lover's destination.

San Francisco and Beyond
South of the California wine country, this culturally diverse city if chock full of historical landmarks and popular destinations such as the world-famous Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz, The Presidio of San Francisco (where camping is available), Ghirardelli Square and of course the legendary Cable Cars. Just north of San Francisco, you can hike through the Muir Woods National Monument, which preserves the last old-growth coastal redwood forest in the San Francisco Bay Area. Heading south of San Francisco on the famous Highway 1 and you can tour the renowned Monterrey Bay Aquarium in Monterrey, which is home to approximately 550 different marine species. Further down Highway 1 is Big Sur, noted as one of the most beautiful places on earth. Camping is a treat in Big Sur and is available in both State Parks and privately owned campgrounds.

On to Los Angeles
There's so much to do in Los Angeles, California, guides could spend days taking you around the famous city. Stroll the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard or visit dozens of Hollywood attractions located along the 20 miles of Sunset Boulevard. Watch the sun set from the famous boardwalk in Santa Monica or imbibe on some food and drink while people watching along Venice Beach. Bring plenty of cash for shopping along Rodeo Drive, or perhaps catch a glimpse of a star of two at Burbank's NBC Television Studios and Warner Brothers Studios. For a unique overnight stay in Long Beach, book a stateroom in the grand HMS Queen Mary. She's permanently docked in Long Beach Harbor and has been converted into a hotel and tourist attraction.
