Ergonomics play a role in vehicle safety. Pay attention to seat adjustments when evaluating a new car.

Geico presents: Vehicle Safety and Comfort

When choosing a new vehicle, it's important to find the right fit in terms of both safety and comfort.

  • Do your own research.
Start your research by comparing crash test results and safety ratings, and educating yourself about new vehicle safety features. Government and consumer organizations are excellent sources of information.

  • Evaluate ergonomics.
Ergonomics play a role in vehicle safety, so you'll want to pay attention to seat adjustments when evaluating a new car.
Do the height positions work for you? Make sure your legs aren't crowded under the dash, and that you can pivot your right foot between the brake and accelerator without lifting your heel.

  • Position yourself the appropriate distance from the wheel.
Move the seat backward and forward, too. Can you maintain the correct distance from the steering wheel so that your arms remain slightly bent at the elbow when turning?

  • Check for good visibility.
Clear sightlines are also important. Adjust your mirrors, then check for good visibility in all directions. Look over each shoulder as well to make sure nothing obscures the view.
