Gardens of Washington, D.C.There's more to the nation's capital than marble monuments If your mental picture of Washington, D.C. is comprised of the White House, the Capitol and little else, you arent alone. Few Americans who have not taken the time to explore the citys colorful and eclectic neighborhoods and parks realize that Washington is a lush metropolis filled with beautiful flowers, trees and green spaces. A visit to D.C. in spring or summer holds the promise of walking through some of the nations most beautiful gardens.
Here are some of D.C.s many beautiful gardens: - Dumbarton Oaks. Located in Georgetown and run by Harvard University, Dumbarton Oaks is worth a whole afternoons visit. With extensive English, French and Italian gardens, the location is quite impressive.
- Hillwood Museum. Another beautiful spot worth visiting is Hillwood Museum and Gardens, which is the home of Marjorie Merriweather Post. The lush grounds feature a rose garden, Japanese garden, greenhouse and more, all located on the same property as a world-class art museum.
- Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. One museum thats seldom visited but is nonetheless exquisite is Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, which is a series of water lily pools with blooming lilies and golden lotus plants.
