For purists, the best beaches lack any commercial or residential development — no oceanfront hotels, no seaside restaurants, no boardwalk amusements. These secluded, unmolested places are tough to find in an age of rampant coastal development, but writer Morris Dye has found 10 beaches in the United States where the surf, sun and sand remain unaltered. Guess what? They're almost all in national parks and wildlife refuges, where government protection has kept the bulldozers away.
