Asheville, North Carolina: Where to Stay

(Continued from page 2)

Historic Hideaway: The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa

It took 400 men an entire year to build the massive stone façade of this 1913 hotel, hauling the granite boulders from nearby Sunset Mountain. Named for E.W. Grove, the St. Louis businessman who dreamed it up, the Inn has welcomed many luminaries over the decades, from William Jennings Bryan to F. Scott Fitzgerald to George Bush.

You may stay in the historic Main Inn or in one of the modern wings added in the 1980s. Main Inn rooms have all the usual modern amenities, yet retain the historic feel of Asheville circa the Arts & Crafts period. The spa offers a full complement of services, including massage and skin care for men.

Double rates range from around $250 per night in the Main Inn to $675 for the luxurious Club Floor. You may find an off-season online deal that dips closer to $200.
