Claim to Fame: The Caravaggio collection

This luxurious restored villa houses the collection of Cardinal Scipione Borghese (1576–1633), the powerful nephew of Pope Paul V and a man by all counts ruthless and hedonistic. But he was also an eager patron of the arts and his taste that of art rich with drama and fleshy bodies. The definitive collection of Caravaggios is here, as well as substantial numbers of work by Titian and Bernini.

The museum is located in a peaceful park in Rome. Come for the atmosphere as well as the fine art. Call to get advance reservations, and be aware that your visit will be restricted to two hours.
