Not Just a Shopping and Dining District, It’s an Experience
Faneuil Hall Marketplace

In the heart of Boston, Faneuil Hall Marketplace is adjacent to historic Faneuil Hall and bordered by the financial district, the waterfront, the North End, Government Center and Haymarket. The Marketplace is actually four great places in one location: Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market, North Market and South Market. All are situated around a cobblestone promenade where jugglers, magicians and musicians entertain locals and tourists alike.

A well-traveled part of Boston's "Freedom Trail," the Marketplace is a five-minute walk to the New England Aquarium, The Children's Museum, The Old State House and Paul Revere's House. Also close by (up to 15 minutes away) are The New State House, The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Public Garden, Old North Church, The USS Constitution and Fenway Park.

Faneuil Hall was built in 1742 as a gift to the city by Peter Faneuil, Boston’s wealthiest merchant; it expanded in 1826 to include Quincy Market. It has been home to not only merchants and fisherman, but to historic events such as the 1764 protest against the Sugar Act ("no taxation without representation") and George Washington’s toast to the nation on its first birthday. Hence, the nickname "The Cradle of Liberty" was coined.

The once-thriving marketplace fell into disrepair and was tagged for demolition until a committed group of Bostonians sought to preserve it in the early 1970s, bringing about its renovation in 1976. Today, Faneuil Hall Marketplace still serves as Boston's central meeting place, recognized as an unparalleled urban marketplace. The unique and burgeoning array of shops, restaurants and outdoor entertainment have made it a premiere urban destination, attracting more than 18 million visitors annually.
