The Hermitage ballroom features an elegant vaulted ceiling.

When the Hermitage opened its doors in the heart of downtown Nashville in 1910, it was regarded as the most prestigious hotel in the city. Almost a century later, it can still make the same boast and back it up. Walk into its lobby and you can feel the history. Six presidents, including Franklin Delano Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy, have walked its halls. Bette Davis, Greta Garbo and Al Capone have all stayed at the Hermitage, too.

One of the hotel’s great successes is its ability to honor the past while offering modern day conveniences. The view of the lobby with its Italian marble entryway, stained-glass ceiling and Russian walnut paneling has remained relatively unchanged for decades while the rooms now offer wireless Internet access and flat-screen TVs.

Suites range from $199 to $265. A two-bedroom suite begins at $289.
