Live Music: Grand Ole Opry and The Station Inn Two legendary places to experience country music in Nashville
By Jamison Rotch
They don't call Nashville Music City for nothing. The place is full of bars and music halls where you can hear live music. Two of the city's most famous venues are the Grand Ole Opry and The Station Inn.
To take in a performance of the Grand Ole Opry is to see a part of music history. This live concert broadcast has become the worlds longest-running radio show since its 1925 debut. Stars of countrys past, present and future take the stage every Friday and Saturday night at the 4,400-seat theater in east Nashville Additional Tuesday night performances run from March to December. The Oprys winter home is the legendary Ryman Auditorium in downtown Nashville.
Tickets, venue information and a complete schedule of performers for both locations are available online.
The Station Inn is an unassuming but world-famous bluegrass venue in downtown Nashville. Church pews and folding chairs offer a first-class view of performances from the likes of Ricky Skaggs, Dierks Bentley and Alison Krauss. Low ceilings and plywood floors give the place a delightfully divey feel. Low ticket prices ($7 to $15, even for big acts) keep it real.
