The Aquinnah (uk-kwin-ah) Cliffs soar 150 feet above the Vineyard shoreline and are sacred to the Wampanoag Indians, a local tribe.

The striated, red-clay Aquinnah Cliffs are a national historic landmark and well worth a visit. Located on the island's western edge, they make a perfect site for taking in the sunset on the Vineyard.
The cliffs are hardly undiscovered and you probably won't be alone there; there are usually tour buses idling nearby.
You'll pass Native American shops on the way to the cliffs; the local Indian tribe, the Wampanoag, has the exclusive right to extract the area's famously detoxifying mud so leave your pail at home. You can get some of the mud in spa-treatment form at the Mansion House spa.
