The Cape Pogue Wildlife Refuge on Chappaquiddick is home to extensive salt marshes and is a breeding ground for seagulls and other shorebirds.

Chappaquiddick is an island off an island. Politically it's part of nearby Edgartown but culturally it's very much its own place. Chappaquiddick is remembered chiefly as the location of Sen. Ted Kennedy’s 1969 car accident that killed his passenger after he drove off the island’s Dike Bridge.

As the notoriety fades, Chappaquiddick is reclaiming its true identity as a nature-lover’s paradise. Tour guides can escort visitors through Cape Poge Wildlife Refuge, pointing out the flora and fauna on the shoreline and marshes. Also of note is the Mytoi Japanese garden, a 14-acre preserve filled with azaleas, daffodils and wild roses, as well as walking paths leading through the grounds.
