The Hotel Aleph is a luxury wallow in the heart of Rome. Rooms (top) are a combo of minimalism and 1930s sleek, and the Angelo Bar (above) offers a sultry spot for drinks.

The Aleph may be the most concept-driven of Rome's splashy design hotels. Conceived of by architect Adam Tihany, the Aleph is inspired by Dante's "Divine Comedy" and is loosely divided into the heavenly and the hellish. In this case, a red-lacquered reception area called Sin is as close to hell as an Aleph guest gets. There's lots of the divine with the hotel's Paradise spa offering treatments like the Melted Chocolate massage in a space once occupied by bank vaults. The 7 Heaven restaurant is on the hotel rooftop and offers fabulous views of the city with seating for 70.
The hotel's 96 guest rooms provide a sedate color scheme and a relaxing feel that are perfect for downtime after exploring the city. Aleph is within steps of the bustling Via Veneto, Villa Borghese and the Piazza Barberini's Triton Fountain.
Rooms start around $350 per night.
