When You're Tired of Pasta How to get the steak you want in Rome
By Diane Vadino
Settling in with a steak for dinner is a popular option, especially for American travelers looking for a change from pasta. But steak lust can lead to a bit of meat-centric heartache if the beefs not carefully ordered. The regular Italian bistecca (beefsteak) is a thin, well-done piece of meat that's much different than the U.S. version of a steak. A bistecca di filetto may be closer to our conception of a filet mignon while a steak prepared fiorentina style typically resembles a big rib-eye. It is often served in a portion big enough for two diners.
