The Hotel Providence is a hotel lover's best pick in downtown with 80 rooms in a lovely, historic setting. Two older buildings, dating from the 19th century, make up the hotel, which takes its design cues from the area's turn-of-the-century New England charms (the neighborhood is on the National Register of Historic Places) and from its roots in the community.
The hotel's artwork includes pieces by the faculty of the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design, and the campus is just blocks from the hotel. Visiting parents will want to note that other universities, including Brown and Johnson & Wales, are nearby. Don't miss L'Epicureo, the hotel restaurant and one of the city's favorite trattorias.
