WaterFire is one of Providence's signature attractions, and perhaps one of its most fun draws. Dozens of bonfires light up the banks of the city's Providence and Woonasquatucket rivers and Memorial Boulevard every summer. This incendiary installation was created by artist Barnaby Evans to honor the 10th anniversary of First Night Providence.
The musical aspect of the event has become the central component in the soundtrack to the installation, chosen by Evans to complement the visual spectacle, and the shows put on in the surrounding area. The Sovereign Plaza Ballroom at Westminster and Weybosset streets has hosted nights celebrating tango, swing and salsa. Take lessons before the live performances, and hear jazz bands play at the Verizon Jazz Stage.
