Providence for Food Lovers For a small city, there's plenty to satisfy visiting foodies.
By Diane Vadino
The culinary arts program at Johnson & Wales University is one of the nation's most renowned. To the delight of visiting amateur chefs, the school offers a variety of classes. The enrollments are small (many top off at 16) and classes frequently sell out, so confirm your space before leaving home; planners will be able to take classes on homestyle stews, China's regional specialties and international vegetarian dishes.
It's a family-friendly program as well, with barbecue classes for teens and pizza-cooking sessions dedicated to "cooking with mom and dad." Foodies will also want to explore the Italian delicacies of Federal Hill and can make the most of it at the side of Cindy Salvato. The cookbook author's three-hour tour stops at ravioli shops and chefs' kitchens with everyone receiving samples and recipes to try out at home.
