Acadia National Park

Acadia, in Maine, was the first national park to be founded east of the Mississippi. It runs through much of Mount Desert Island including Bar Harbor. There's water everywhere, so the best way to explore is by boat.

At Dive-in Theater, passengers and crew set out into Frenchman Bay on a 51-foot boat. Capt. Eddie Monat dives to the bay bottom with a video camera and sends images and running commentary into the boat's mini-theater. He describes the sea creatures he sees and answers passengers' questions. On Lulu the Lobster Boat, Capt. John Nicolai leads a two-hour harbor tour telling stories of lobstermen's traditions and folklore. Chances are good you'll spot seals and bald eagles.
