These Presidents Rock

Mount Rushmore stands as one of this nation's most recognizable sculptures, and it has become a great symbol of American history. Massive likenesses of Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt (Teddy that is) are carved into the granite-walled Black Hills of South Dakota. These leaders were selected for what they represented: independence, democracy, freedom and global diplomacy. A popular annual Fourth of July celebration (held July 3-4) features a full lineup of entertainment capped off by a spectacular fireworks display.
