Guardsman's Pass Scenic Backway near Park City, Utah, offers stunning views and gleaming colors at every turn. This road is not plowed during the winter, so summer and fall are the only times to experience its mountain vistas.

The route: From Old Town in Park City, head south on Main Street and onto Highway 224. As you pass Deer Valley Resort, ready yourself for a steep climb up to a 9700-foot summit. Bear right at the fork onto Highway 190 to continue into Brighton where the Wasatch-Cache National Forest provides more color.

Roadside attractions: Prepare for the trip by packing a camera, light jacket, and some lunch. You’ll feel like you are on top of the world as you look out from the mountain peak to the majestic fields filled with radiant red and golden colored trees.
