10 Great Fall Foliage Drives

Route 5
Vermont

Many would consider the Green Mountain State to be the country’s number one destination for checking out fall foliage. Grazing cows in rolling pastures and big, bright, colorful trees provide scenes of breathtaking beauty. Nature is at its finest in Vermont.

The route: Start the 65-mile drive in the southeastern city of Brattleboro and continue on Route 5, parallel to the Connecticut River.

Roadside attractions: Along the way, you’ll see town commons and mills reminiscent of the old Vermont juxtaposed next to newly established art galleries and gourmet shops. At the end of the trip, you’ll reach White River Junction, a former railroad town that has transformed into a thriving arts community. While there, visit the galleries in the Tip Top Building or grab a bite at the Polka Dot Cafe.
