10 Great Fall Foliage Drives

Lost Maples State Park
Texas

Lost Maples State Park in remote Vanderpool, Texas, 85 miles northwest of San Antonio, is just about the only area in Texas to get a dose of fall color.

The route: Start on Interstate 10 West and pick up Highway 16 North until you reach Bandera. Continue on to Medina where you'll pick up FM 337 West (In these parts, FM stands for Farm to Market Road.) Then drive the last five miles north on FM 187 into Lost Maples.

Roadside attractions: Bandera is known as the "cowboy capital of the world," so pick up some western wear on Main Street before heading out on your road trip. Shortly before you reach Lost Maples, pull over at the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum to check out the vintage bikes and eat lunch at the museum’s Ace Cafe.

Visit the park's Web site for more information.
