Espresso/Cappuccino Tips
Tricks of the Trade : Episode FLTOT-209

  • "Espresso" is Italian for "express."
  • Most espresso is a blend of up to seven different coffees.
  • Darker roasts of espresso have less caffeine than lighter roast coffees.
  • The espresso machine is called a "barista" and the process is called "infusion."
  • For the best froth, put the pitcher in the freezer before use and fill halfway with cold milk.
  • Once the steam is turned on, bring the wand to the surface of the milk.
  • Heat milk to140F.
  • The best proportion is one-third espresso to one-third milk and one-third froth.
  • Six ounces of cappuccino should consist of two ounces espresso and four ounces milk.
  • If you must drink flavored coffee, don't buy it pre-made — add the extra yourself. It will taste fresher.
